Are you looking for student loans without a cosigner? Well you should be happy to learn that the majority of student financial aid that is made available to students doesn’t require a cosigner, and many times student loans without cosigner can be feasible depending on your financial situation and credit history. It is important to first get a grip on the general financial aid process that almost every college student need to complete before being able to secure any kind of financial aid.

Getting Financial Aid Without a Cosigner

Getting a no cosigner student loan starts by first filling out what is called a FAFSA application. FAFSA stands for free application for student aid, and you can fill this out either online or via the appropriate forms. The FAFSA isn’t sent into your school initially, and rather will be sent into the appropriate federal financial aid departments. The FAFSA is basically like saying that you will be willing to accept any financial aid that you qualify for, and not filling it out will pretty much prevent you from receiving the best kind of student financial aid.

Once you have filled out and sent in your FAFSA, a few months later your college will return to you a financial aid package with hopefully an assortment of financial aid awards that can help pay for your school. Included in this package will be a combination grants, scholarships, federal aid, state aid, and aid provided exclusively by your school. You may have all of these kinds of aid, or just a few, and this will depend on your level of need and academic achievements.

Going Through Your Aid Package

If you have been given any grants or scholarships then you should be more than pleased as these kinds of aid do not require you to make any repayments in the future. This kind of funding will not require a cosigner, and is typically like free money depending on how you look at it.

You next should be looking for any federal based aid you may have qualified for. This type of aid comes in the form of Stafford and Perkins loans, and these kinds of loans possess a low interest rate perfect for students. Most of the time these student loans without cosigner will not require that you provide a cosigner, and often times they will automatically be put towards the costs of your tuition and other expenses.

You next should look through your financial aid package to see if your college provided you any private student loans no cosigner or other kinds of financing. Private student loans will require that you provide a cosigner if you are a college student most of the time, but if your college has already listed some of these loans within your aid package then there is a chance you’ve already been pre-approved and therefore might not had to provide a cosigner.

If you are a non-traditional student then there is a chance that you may be able to get a private student loan even if one was not listed within your financial aid package. If you have an established credit history, or a good job and employment history then there is a good chance that you can still apply for a private student loan and not have to supply a cosigner. If you are a regular college student without much of a credit history and little employment history then you will have to get a cosigner to be approved for such financing.

Student Loans Final Analysis

The majority of student loan financing out there doesn’t require that you provide a cosigner, but if you are looking for private student funding from a bank or credit union then more it is more than likely that you will have to provide a cosigner to get approved for such loans. It is best to exhaust the kinds of college financing that don’t require a cosigner before pursuing private loan funding—as you will be able to save money and get a lower interest rate with grants and federal-based loans. In the end it is just a matter of following the correct steps to secure your college financing, and with the FAFSA the process is pretty much condensed into a simple process that almost anyone can follow. Stay persistent and don’t hesitate to contact your school if you cannot come up with the money you need to attend as many times colleges set aside money for students who are in need.

I'd also recommend that students/parents use www.SimpleTuition.com to compare student loan rates from various lenders so that they choose the best option for their particular situation. This could help save a lot of money in the future.

Nice information, With the high importance of student loans to people that are planning to attend college or already are attending college it is easy to see why so many people have them. There are still many people that are still in the learning process of what student loans are and what loans are available to them.
